6 Must-Visit Dispensaries in New Mexico

Editor’s Note: Headed to New Mexico? Here’s a great guide to New Mexico’s dispensaries.

There are three dozen licensed medical cannabis producers serving nearly 60,000 patients in New Mexico. As the fifth largest (yet fifth least-populated) state in the US, the majority of dispensaries—more than half—are located near larger population centers such as Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

That said, there are others sprinkled across the Land of Enchantment, from Grants to Clovis and Taos to Silver City. Here are eight notable dispensaries in New Mexico:

The Verdes Foundation

Named “2017 Best Dispensary” and won “Best CBD Flower,” The Verdes Foundation is well-loved for its attentive patient care as well as its creative, whole-health offerings. The Verdes Foundation welcomes new patients with orientation classes and one-on-one educational sessions taught by nurse educators.

The “Verdes Craft” line of products ranges from terpene-infused candles to “Be Happy” or “Be Passionate” craft flower blends. The Verdes Foundation also offers happy employees: It was named 2018 “Best Place to Work” in the Albuquerque Business First Top 100 Awards.

Fruit of the Earth Organics — Santa Fe

Voted “Best Dispensary of 2018” by readers of the Santa Fe Reporter, and generally reviewed as the best in New Mexico, the dog-friendly Fruit of the Earth Organics’ shop also operates a no-card-required CBD store and offers CBD Hot Stone massage.

Family owned, they focus on sustainably grown and packaged product. Fruit of the Earth Organics’ cannabis is grown outdoors “in the sun, using compost teas, beneficial microorganisms and nutrients” and all packaging is biodegradable. “We want everything to be as healthful as possible for both our patients and the environment,” says Elisha Weisman, General Manager and Grower.

CG Dispensary operates three locations between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, all open seven days a week. CG offers a wide variety of active strains, usually more than 25, priced affordably, from $8—$9 per gram. CG also offers popular edibles including Bhang bars, Cannabubbles, and hard candies.

This boutique-style dispensary does not pre-package bud, “so it’s fresher and patients can ‘follow their nose’ to what appeals to them,” says manager, Katie Bright. “We focus on listening to patients. If they know what they want, we’re happy to provide that. We listen to their needs and goals and assist.”

Best known for its tinctures and concentrates, in addition to bud, Sacred Garden also offers an extensive variety of quality crumble and shatter. Among its popular products are a 710mg Rice Krispy Treat and and handmade taffy, such as the 10mg THC Coconut Pinon Caramel.

Red Barn Growers

As Gallup’s only dispensary, Red Barn Growers catered to a bit of a captive audience before opening their Santa Fe shop in July of 2018. Executive Director Brett Baker has special insight into his business; as a former criminal defender, he fought what he saw as injustice in marijuana possession cases. He also has personal experience with the power of medical cannabis.

Diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 20, he quickly realized what powerful medicine cannabis was. “We’re very patient-centric and do our best to create a friendly, family-like environment. We also work hard to change the negative perceptions some people have of medical marijuana,” says Baker.

Among Red Barn’s most popular organic, hand-trimmed, strains are: Cherry Pie and Green Crack

UltraHealth

UltraHealth runs ten (soon to be eleven) dispensaries, four of which are in the Albuquerque area. Founded by Duke Rodriguez, a former state health secretary, the non-profit also operates dispensaries in Arizona. UltraHealth recently broke ground on its eleventh location in Clayton, New Mexico, where it plans to open the state’s “first custom build-to-suit cannabis dispensary” in January 2019.
